A terminally ill cancer patient is making a bid to top the Christmas pop charts in Britain after releasing a cover of Michael Jackson‘s favourite song, Smile.

Katherine Crowe, who is battling breast cancer, teamed up with members of the London Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra to record the Charlie Chaplin tune, which Jermaine Jackson sang at his brother’s Los Angeles memorial service in 2009, at London’s fabled Abbey Road studios.

Friends and family members donated cash to raise funds to rent the former studio home of the Beatles and hire the orchestra for the session – and make the mother of two’s dreams come true.

Crowe tells the Bbc, “I can’t believe the support I have received to make my dream come true. Definitely a little bit of magic happened that day.”

Her version of Smile was released on Friday (14Dec12). All proceeds from sales of the song will benefit cancer research charities.
